You're Not Fooling Anyone by Steve Higginbotham February 1, 2009 |

Years ago, my
sister and I dressed up one day in an attempt to "play a trick" on my dad.
She put on some clothes to make her look like a man, and I put on a wig and
a dress to make myself look like a girl. After we got dressed up, we presented ourselves to my dad and my mom asked him if he knew which one was "Janie" and which one was "Steve." Dad sat there for a while, contemplating his decision, then he pointed at me and said, "This must be Janie," then he pointed at my sister and said, "This must be Steve." Well, I laughed and laughed thinking that I had fooled my own dad. Well, it wasn't until years later, when I looked at a picture taken that day, that I realized that at the time, my sister was nearly a foot taller than me! Of course he knew who was who. He knew it all the time. Yet, I had thought I had fooled him. I wonder how many times this happens with regard to our spiritual identity? We foolishly think we have fooled God. We think he doesn't know the difference. We think we have adequately disguised our actions or our motives, and God can't tell the difference. Well friends, if that's the case, the joke's on us. God knows all and sees all (Ecclesiastes 12:14). Give this some thought...we will never be able to fool God, but we can carry on a pretense long enough to fool ourselves into thinking we have fooled God. Be careful, and do not be deceived. |
